This thrush is the most colorful of all the thrushes. About size of a robin, it tends to be less obvious than robins; holding more to the understory, spending less time in the open.

One of the best birders I know says he does not prefer bird guides that feature photos (instead of drawings) because any photo is only a photo of that particular bird and may not be transferable to other birds. You can see that here, but all of these really are pictures of varied thrush.
