This trail goes into the Middle Santiam Wilderness (Permit Required).

At this trailhead you have two options. By heading west you skirt the talus slopes of knob rock before entering the Middle Santiam Wilderness. this 3.2 mile route exposes you to a rich old-growth forest community before connecting with Chimney Peak Trail.
By turning east at the trailhead you can scramble 2.2 miles up and over Swamp Peak before intersecting the Gordan Peak trail.
Ambitious hikers may want to make a 15.8 mile trip using the Swamp Peak, Gordan Peak and Chimney Peak trail loop.


Directions: From Sweet Home, travel east on Highway 20 for 4 miles and turn left on Forest Road 11 (Quartzville Road.) Travel 40 miles up Quartzville Road to the east end of Forest Road 1152 and turn right. Travel 5 miles on 1152 to Forest Service road 640 and turn left. Trailhead is a quarter mile up Forest Service Road 640 at the junction with 642.

An alternate access (with, usually, slightly better road conditions on Road 1152) is from the eastern end of Forest Road 1152, which is 5 miles further up Quartzville Road. Turn right on Forest Road 1152 and travel 5 miles to spur road 640 and turn left onto Road 640. The trail head (same as above) is 1.2 miles along road 640 on the right.
